Morrison Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 15th

Maximum Award: $2000

Marsha Morrison achieved a lifelong goal when she earned a BGS degree from UConn Stamford in 1995, 40 years after she had first taken college-level courses. To express her gratitude, she established a scholarship fund to support female students returning to school.

The Morrison Scholarship is based on the following criteria:UConn Stamford Campus, Bachelor of General Studies

  • Enrollment as a student in the Bachelor of General Studies program; preference is given to students enrolled at the Stamford campus.
  • Satisfactory academic status.
  • Pursuit of career advancement opportunities which will be facilitated by the completion of the Bachelor of General Studies program.
  • Demonstrated motivation, determination, persistence, and focus.

Galvin G. Gall/Elizabeth K. Roper Scholarship & Robert B. Norris Memorial Award

Application Deadline: April 30th

Maximum Award: $1500

Dr. Robert B. Norris, Dr. Galvin G. Gall, and Elizabeth K. Roper, are former deans of what was the Center for Continuing Studies, the originating home of the Bachelor of General Studies program. Dr. Norris, UConn’s first dean of Continuing Education, established Continuing Education for Women; Associate Dean Roper continued this endeavor. Dr. Gall built upon these pioneering efforts with the development of the BGS program in 1977. The Gall/Roper Scholarship and Norris Memorial Award are based on the following criteria:

UConn Waterbury Campus, Bachelor of General Studies

  • Academic achievements as an adult learner. Applicants and nominees must have completed 15 UConn credits in the BGS program, have a divisional grade point average of 3.0 or better, and must currently be registered for credit courses at UConn.
  • Potential for professional and personal achievement.
  • Financial circumstances. Financial need will be considered as a criterion, although it is not the determining factor in the selection process.

Class of 1944 Scholarship

Application Deadline: April 30th

Maximum Award: $1500

This scholarship was established by the Class of 1944 to assist students who have faced a significant interrup­tion in their college education and to honor graduates of the 1944 Class.

The Class of 1944 Scholarship is based on the following criteria:UConn Storrs Campus, UConn Bachelor of General Studies

  • Evidence of a significant interruption in the candidate's formal education.
  • Academic achievement as an adult learner. Applicants and nominees must have completed 15 UConn credits in the BGS program, have a divisional grade point average of 3.0 or better, and must currently be registered for credit courses at UConn.
  • Potential for professional and personal achievement.
  • Financial circumstances. Financial need will be considered as a criterion, although it is not the determining factor.

Class of 1945 Scholarship

Maximum Award: $1000

This scholarship was established by the Class of 1945 to assist students who have faced a significant interruption in their college education. The Class of 1945 Scholarship is based on the following criteria:

Frank and Virginia Caruso Memorial Scholarship

Application Deadline: April 30th

Maximum Award: $1500

The Frank and Virginia Caruso Memorial Scholarship was established in 2014. The fund provides scholarships to entering or continuing students in the BGS program.

UConn Avery Point Campus, UConn Bachelor of General Studies

The Frank and Virginia Caruso Memorial Scholarship is based on the following criteria:

  • Enrollment as a student in the Bachelor of General Studies program.
  • Satisfactory academic status.
  • Demonstrated motivation, determination, persistence and focus.
  • Financial circumstances. Financial need will be considered as a criterion, although it is not the determining factor.
