International Students

  1. An interview with an Academic Advisor is required before a BGS application can be processed. Please complete and submit the following materials as outlined below. All application materials should be returned to the program office at the campus you wish to attend.

  4. Please contact an International Advisor in UConn’s International Student and Scholar Services unit (860) 486-3855 if you have any questions regarding the materials required of International Students.
  5. Once all documents are completed, please submit them to the Program Office at the campus you wish to attend. You will be assigned an Academic Advisor who will review your application materials with you.

  7. If you are currently in the U.S. under a different immigration status and want to change to F-1 status, please contact an International Advisor in UConn’s International Student and Scholar Services unit (860) 486-3855.
  8. All international applicants must provide evidence of their proficiency in English in order to be admitted to the Bachelor of General Studies program. English language fluency can be established in any one of the following ways:
    • If your native language is English.
    • If you have received and provide the BGS office with a UCAELI English proficiency certificate.
    • If you have received a degree from a U.S. regionally accredited college or university, and send to the BGS office an official transcript from the aforementioned institution.
    • If you have passed a credit bearing college English writing course from a US regionally accredited college or university, and have submitted an official college transcript.
    • If you have successfully passed either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS). For students whose primary language is not English, the TOEFL or IELTS can be a valuable supplement to the application. The minimum score for the TOEFL is 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), or 79 (Internet-based) or a minimum score of 6.5 for IELTS. All academic credentials not written in English must be accompanied by official, certified English translations.

You must have an I-20 from UConn before you send a change of status application to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

The issuance of an I-20 is contingent upon your acceptance into the BGS Program.

Your registration may be subject to cancellation if you are not eligible for a form I-20.
